Caring Ministries
Older Adult Ministry
Show your fear of God by standing up in the presence of elderly people and showing respect for the aged. I am the Lord.
Leviticus 19:32
Older adults provide communities with more than tradition. They offer themselves, their faith, wisdom, and experience for the benefit of God's kingdom here on earth.
Volunteers serve senior adults at about 10 retirement communities in Granbury, plus our homebound. Those we serve include Granbury First senior adult members, older relatives of our members, and Methodists who have relocated to Granbury.
The purpose of this ministry is to maintain a caring relationship with our senior adults who are sick, homebound or in retirement communities and can't attend Granbury First regularly. Older adults gather with other faithful members to connect with themselves and with each other and to nurture a deeper understanding of their God.
Opportunities to serve with Older Adult Ministry include visiting shut-in members at home, in nursing homes and assisted living facilities to let them know we care and that they are a valued part of our church family; giving communion monthly to our sick, homebound, and those in nursing homes and assisted living facilities; singing monthly and providing special music to residents of selected nursing homes; sending greeting cards to our senior adults; distributing Sanctuary flowers to nursing home and homebound members; leading Bible studies weekly for residents of facilities such as Harbor Lakes Rehab Center; providing Upper Room publications to our senior adults; conducting Older Adult Recognition Day bi-annually to honor our older adults; and providing transportation to church for our senior members on Sundays.
